Here’s that very nice actress, Carrie Preston, with Chumley, a poodle and Maltese mix. She plays Arlene Fowler Bellefleur on HBO’s “True Blood”. It’s a show about vampires. Her true love, though, is little Chumley. ARF! Yes! And her husband doesn’t seem to mind.
Carrie is from Georgia and grew up with lots of house and farm animals. But, “Tess” was the beloved family dog and Carrie knew that she’d love dogs for the rest of her life.
(Ahhhh. How refreshing! Slurp. Slobber.)
Carrie and her husband, Michael, were walking in New York’s Greenwich Village one day and passed an old pub (actually an old speakeasy — wow) called Chumley’s. Michael thought it would be a good name for a dog — if they had one.
They’re both actors and their schedules are always so busy. Carrie wanted to adopt (not buy) a dog, who was small, didn’t shed much (she’s slightly allergic) and who could easily travel with her.
She checked Petfinder.com over and over again, until she saw a picture of what would become her own forever pet. She said, “He was adorable . . . he had these little squinty eyes, like a little old man.” The dog’s description was written by A Dog’s Life Rescue, located in Los Angeles. Carrie called and called and finally met “the love of her life”.
She says he’s kind of serious, smart, very loving and protective of her, especially, and he’s a good traveler.
Show biz can get a little fast and crazy sometimes — believe me, I know. Oh, woof to that! Carrie says that little Chumley has a steadying influence on her life, giving her (and Michael) something positive to focus on besides themselves. “He gets us out of our heads and into our hearts,” she says.
