Some famous dogs have had the honor to be included on the Hollywood Walk of Fame; such as Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, and Strongheart. There are also memorials for dogs who participated in war efforts and one in Moscow for Laika, a dog sent into orbit in 1957.

A walk of fame, specifically for dogs, was opened in Battersea Park, London during 2007. The first inductees to the walk of fame included famous dogs such as Lassie and Toto from the Wizard of Oz. Other dogs included in the walk of fame are Bobby from The Story of a Dog, Gromit from Wallace and Gromit, Chance and Shadow from Homeward Bound, and Fang from the Harry Potter series.

Battersea Park has always been a significant area for dogs due to the Battersea Dogs and Cats home being located in the area. The animal shelter was opened in 1860 and is the UK’s oldest establishment of its kind. They help about 9000 animals a year and they never turn away a dog or cat in need. The organization is completely funded by donations and has a team of volunteers to help out with pet care.
