RYAN GOSLING AND GEORGE

Ryan Gosling, star of “The Notebook” and “Ides of March”, says he has found his soul mate – the one who’s outlasted any of his previous relationships.

But before girlfriend Eva Mendes gets too confident, it should be pointed out that the soul mate he’s referring to is George, a 13-year-old mixed breed dog he rescued many years ago.

The two have been inseparable, walking the streets of Los Angeles, New York, or other cities where Ryan is filming.  He has special paperwork so that George can travel with him.

George – a caramel-colored medium-sized dog, has been going through airport security like a pro for many years now. As he’s aged, he can now be seen more often in Ryan’s arms as they make their way through a terminal. And when they go hiking together, Ryan will pick George up at the end of the hike and place him into the car for the ride home.

He was with Ryan on the set during filming “Ides of March” a few years ago on St. Patrick’s Day, all decked out in a festive green t-shirt. He’s also been known to sport a colorful bandana around his neck from time to time.  But George’s most striking feature is the full-body Mohawk haircut he’s had for years.

When Ryan and George were guests on “The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon”, Ryan confirmed that George is in his element with the Mohawk and acts out of character without it.  George demonstrated his love of apples while on the show, as well.  Ryan gave apple bites to him as they sat with Jimmy Fallon on the set.

George has had other media exposure, too, appearing in a print ad with Ryan to promote the adoption of animals from shelters.

The duo is clearly close and Ryan seems to never tire of talking about George, saying, “He’s the great love of my life.”

During press interviews, he often politely answers questions until the topic moves to George, when he will become animated.  Ryan has said, “George is way more interesting than I am,” or “I’d much rather talk about him.”

Apparently Ryan’s relationship with Eva Mendes is serious, because she’s been seen walking George, and it’s been reported that Ryan won’t let most people handle the canine.

Eva has had an influence on caring for George, too, it seems.  She and Ryan are in Iceland filming “How to Catch a Monster.” But because of George’s age and declining health, Ryan was hesitant to leave him behind. Eva stepped in to recommend that George stay with her friend, “Dog Whisperer” Cesar Milan. Ryan agreed, and he and George now Skype each night to ease the pain of their separation.
