Ricky Shaw gives back in a way that only money could buy.

Shaw is a resident of Loxahatchee Groves, Florida — an idyllic, picture-perfect tropical place in the southern climes — and is a constant visitor/coordinator/ benefactor at Pet Haven Rescue.

What makes Shaw so special is that she is a millionaire whose only concern in life is rescuing dogs and placing them (if and until they are adopted) at Pet Haven.

“This is what is most important to me,” she says, “instead of shopping or playing cards or having lunch with the girls, this is the only thing that matters to me.”

Pet Haven Rescue, Inc. is a no cage/no kill non- profit animal shelter located on five beautiful sunshiney, green acres. All dogs live in luxurious, apartment-like surroundings with couches, TVs, and plenty of exercise. All dogs are socialized, sterilized, micro chipped, heartworm checked, de-wormed and vaccinated before adoption.

It’s the least adoptable dogs who are on the top of Shaw’s list for rescue and placement at Pet Haven. These are older animals and many with injuries. Shaw just rolls up her sleeves and gives hands-on help to the shelter and to each dog in need of nourishment, medical treatment and mostly, love.

She rescues approximately 500 dogs each year and pays all costs incurred, including medical expenses, to the tune of $500,000 each year.

She will soon auction off her jewelry — valued at $10 million dollars — at Christie’s. Every dollar will go to Pet Haven.
