Once the boulder is in place, WooFZee helps MeaZea up on top of the large stone. She takes a deep breath, once more pulling the katana from its sheathe. She stretches up, jamming the tip of her blade into the opening.

“Careful,” warns WooFZee.

The stob-goblin’s song starts up again, but this time the words are different.

These mining roads are dark inside
We told them not to come and hide
When the sun burnt the fields
These bells would ring and steal their seals
But you did not leave
And you did not flee
Now the sun will come again
And our fight shall surely end

MeaZea twists her katana. A shower of grit and stone comes down on her. It lands in her hair and on her shoulders. Dust fills her lungs and makes her cough. Still, MeaZea keeps it up.

She twists her sword and scrapes at the ceiling. Slowly, the beam of sunlight streaming in gets larger.

Burn!
Burn!
The red bells will burn!
Turn!
Turn!
It will soon be our turn!

WooFZee looks over his shoulder, to where the stob-goblin is still clinging to the wall. He narrows his eyes and demands, “turn for what?”

“It doesn’t matter,” says MeaZea, firmly. She jams her katana into the opening one last time. A spider web of cracks spread out through the ceiling, letting in little slips of light here and there. Where they touch the fungi, little streams of smoke burst into existence.

It’s the main opening that MeaZea is concerned with, though. She pulls a small emerald shard from the pouch on her side. “I think I can direct the light onto the fungi with this.”

“MeaZea,” says WooFZee, voice low in warning.

MeaZea doesn’t listen. She simply pushes the emerald share into the large beam of sunlight and starts trying to angle the resulting display of green tinted light onto one of the fungi.

The red bells rings
Until the sunlight screams
And these mining roads
Are no longer dark inside
Burn!
Burn!
The red bells will burn!
Turn!
Turn!
It will soon be our turn!
The red bells rings
Until the sunlight screams
And these mining roads
Are no longer dark inside

WooFZee spins around to face the stob-goblin. He snarls, demanding, “turn for what?”

MeaZea insists, “pay attention, WooFZee! I get the feeling we’re going to need to get out of here fast!”

She’s right.

As soon as the light from the emerald makes contact with one of the bell shaped mushrooms, it starts to smolder. In a matter of seconds, the mushroom bursts into flame! The orange glow of the fire lights up the other fungi, and they, too, begin to burn.

The smoke that it gives off is thick and acrid. It burns MeaZea’s lungs. She shouts, “we need to get out of here!”
