The bells turn into chimes. The chimes turn into voices.

Only WooFZee can hear them.

Send me home
Send me home
Mining Roads
Send me home
We are lost
In depths so deep
We are lost
And cannot keep
Fighting now
For Mining Roads
Mining Roads
Please send us home

The sound makes the fur along WooFZee’s spine stand on edge. “They’re nearby.”

MeaZea draws her katana. She seldom uses it in battle, but that doesn’t mean she can’t wield a blade. Without knowing what they’re about to face, it seems like a safe bet to hold it ready.

Send me home
Send me home
Mining Roads
Send me home
Find the lights
Once so bright
Dimmed and dark
So we fight
Restore the lights
They took from us
These Mining Roads
Please send us home
These Mining Roads
Please send us home

One set of golden eyes appear. A moment later, a second set opens up in the darkness of the mining tunnels. The stob-goblin eyes appear one after the other, until a veritable army of the creatures are peeking out at MeaZea and WooFZee.

They are on the walls, the ceiling, and the ground. MeaZea tightens her grip on the katana handle. “We don’t mean you any harm! Please, let us talk to you.”

We are lost
In depths so deep
We are lost

Mining Roads
Please send us home
These roads are ours
You cannot stay
These shadows deep
You cannot stay

“We’re not here to stay,” says WooFZee.

MeaZea asks, “are they talking to you?”

“Sort of,” says the wolf. “I can hear their voices, but I don’t know if they’re talking to us…or just…talking.”

Shapes can be seen moving around in the darkness. It’s hard to pinpoint a form, even for WooFZee. The shadows seem to be completely unnatural, as though they are another entity all of their own.

Mining Roads
Send me home
No lights are here
You should fear
These Mining Roads
Please go home
We cannot help
If you stay
Go away from
From these Mining Roads

“They want us to leave,” says WooFZee. “They keep talking about mining roads. I think that they’re talking about the tracks. There’s something about lights and darkness, too, like…I don’t think we can go in there any further, MeaZea. Not yet, at least.”
